I'm in the process of reading Geneen Roth's Women, Food, and God. It's been getting rave reviews nationwide for months now...a perpetual bestseller, and obviously striking a chord with a lot of people.
After I got my seventh (yes, that's SEVEN) recommendation from colleagues and clients about how fabulous it is, I decided to pick up my own copy and see what insights it might offer. I fell in love with this quote:
"Stephen Levine, a Buddhist teacher, says that hell is wanting to be somewhere different from where you are. Being one place and wanting to be somewhere else. Being constantly agitated---another word for nonaccepting--about the inevitable."
Wow. Profound stuff. I'm just thinking that if we spent a little more time accepting and appreciating where we are (and WHO we are) right now, just as we are, that we'd be far happier in this moment and far more positive and productive in our anticipation of the wonderful experiences and opportunities to come.
Just a thought. Would love to know YOUR thoughts on this book and its concepts...
